Description: Gasteria is a perennial succulent with homeland South Africa. There grows under trees and shrubs.
The plants are low, no stems, leaves are fleshy, tongue-shaped, dotted and grouped by 6 in rosette. The flowers of the plant are pink or red, tubular, with swollen center. The plant blooms in March and April.
There are two distinct species: Gasteria verrucosa and Gasteria maculata.
Care: watered sparingly, only when the soil is dry. The plant has no problems with dry air at home. The minimum temperature for the plant is 10 degrees.
In winter, limit the watering, aslo in the period in late June - early October, when the plant is at rest.
Location: Gasteria loves the light, but the sun in the summer can get nasty burns. Grows best on a south window. Outside plant will tolerate 5-10 degrees.
Cultivation: Needs a loose, rich soil which has leaves and sand for drainage.
Propagation: Propagated by cuttings that occur away from the mother plant.
